ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,583,741, issued on March 24, was assigned to The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong).

"Aluminum composite for hydrogen generation and methods of preparation thereof" was invented by Andrey Chernousov (Hong Kong) and Yui Bun Chan (Hong Kong).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of generating hydrogen involving contacting an aqueous solution with an activated aluminum composite including aluminum, AlN, Gamma-Al2O3, and optionally a carbonaceous material. The activated aluminum composite can safely be stored and can be used for safe on demand hydrogen generation in water."
