ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,686,846, issued on July 21, was assigned to The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois (Urbana, Ill.).

"Plant sweet and yeast MSF transporter capable of transporting different sugars simultaneously" was invented by Yong-Su Jin (Urbana, Ill.), Nurzhan Kuanyshev (Urbana, Ill.), Jing-Jing Liu (Moraga, Calif.), Anshu Deewan (Urbana, Ill.), Christopher V. Rao (Urbana, Ill.), Balaji Panneerselvam (Urbana, Ill.), Diwakar Shukla (Urbana, Ill.) and Sujit Jagtap (Urbana, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides genetically engineered microorganisms for the simultaneous fermentation of pentose and hexose sugars, ...
