ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,664,680, issued on June 23, was assigned to Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (Stockholm).

"Localization and mapping by a group of mobile communications devices" was invented by Jose Araujo (Stockholm) and Volodya Grancharov (Solna, Sweden).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A mobile communications device for performing localization and mapping comprising at least one visual sensor for capturing visual sensor data of a local environment, and operative to derive key-point descriptors from the visual sensor data which represent visual features of the local environment, derive concealed representations of the derived key-point descriptors, ...
