US Patent Issued to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing on Aug. 4 for "Optical device and method of manufacture" (Taiwanese Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,701,720, issued on Aug. 4, was assigned to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (Hsinchu, Taiwan).

"Optical device and method of manufacture" was invented by Hsing-Kuo Hsia (Jhubei City, Taiwan), Chen-Hua Yu (Hsinchu, Taiwan) and Jui Lin Chao (New Taipei City, Taiwan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Optical devices and methods of manufacture are presented in which an opening is formed within a first semiconductor device and then bonded to other optical devices. A laser die or other fill material may be used to refill the opening. The first semiconductor device is then electrically connected to an optical interposer."
