ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,602,949, issued on April 14, was assigned to STMICROELECTRONICS INC. (Coppell, Texas).

"System and method for detecting human presence based on depth sensing and inertial measurement" was invented by Xiaoyong Yang (San Jose, Calif.) and Kalyan-Kumar Vadlamudi-Reddy (San Jose, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An electronic device includes a depth sensor and an inertial measurement unit.
