According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Aspects of the instant disclosure relate to various types of medical catheters with a deformable body that deflect in response to a force exerted on the catheter tip. A magnetic field sensor and permanent magnet respectively coupled on either side of the deformable body are used to determine a change in a magnetic field associated with the deflection of the catheter tip.
