ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,551,931, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to SORTERA TECHNOLOGIES INC. (Markle, Ind.).
"Classifying of materials with contaminants" was invented by Nalin Kumar (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Manuel Gerardo Garcia Jr. (Austin, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A material sorting system sorts materials utilizing a vision system that implements a machine learning system in order to identify or classify each of the materials, which are then sorted into separate groups based on such an identification or classification. The material sorting system can sort material pieces containing contaminants, such as copper from steel."
