ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,642,489, issued on June 2, was assigned to Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc. (Malvern, Pa.).

"Patient bed tracking for medical imaging system" was invented by Stefan B. Siegel (Knoxville, Tenn.), Ziad Burbar (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Inki Hong (Knoxville, Tenn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided is a medical imaging scanner system such as a PET scanner system having a patient bed pallet that is provided with at least one multi-axis motion sensor for monitoring the movement of the patient bed pallet and detecting any deviation in the orientation of the patient bed pallet from a predetermined desired orientation during the movement."
