ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,595,410, issued on April 7, was assigned to Schlumberger Technology Corp. (Sugar Land, Texas).
"Luminescent diamond" was invented by Yahua Bao (Orem, Utah) and J. Daniel Belnap (Lindon, Utah).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Luminescent diamond is made by subjecting a volume of diamond grains to high-pressure/high-temperature conditions with or without a catalyst or pressure transfer media to cause the grains to undergo plastic deformation to produce nitrogen vacancy defects, increasing the luminescent activity/intensity of the resulting diamond material.
