US Patent Issued to Rohr on May 26 for "Horizontal ultrasonic welding thermoplastic material" (California Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 26 -- United States Patent no. 12,636,842, issued on May 26, was assigned to Rohr Inc. (Chula Vista, Calif.).

"Horizontal ultrasonic welding thermoplastic material" was invented by Shyan Bob Shen (San Diego), Michael van Tooren (San Diego), Keith E. Ritchie (San Diego) and Daniel O. Ursenbach (El Cajon, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A repair method is provided during which a thermoplastic patch is arranged on a thermoplastic aerospace component. The thermoplastic patch contacts the thermoplastic aerospace component. The thermoplastic patch is horizontal ultrasonic welded to the thermoplastic aerospace component using an ultrasonic horn."
