ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,735,723, issued on Sept. 15, was assigned to Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital (Columbus, Ohio).

"Self-complementary adeno-associated virus vector and its use in treatment of muscular dystrophy" was invented by Louise Rodino-Klapac (Columbus, Ohio) and Jerry R. Mendell (Columbus, Ohio).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein are methods of treating muscular dystrophy comprising administering a self complementary recombinant AAV (rAAV) scAAVrh74.tMCK.hSGCA vector, methods of expressing alpha-sarcoglycan gene in a patient, pharmaceutical compositions comprising the rAAV, and methods of generating the rAAV."
