ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,661,326, issued on June 23, was assigned to R.P. SCHERER TECHNOLOGIES LLC (Carson City, Nev.).

"Coated enteric softgel capsules" was invented by Karunakar Sukuru (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Qi Fang (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Haitao Li (St. Petersburg, Fla.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein is a softgel capsule including a fill material, shell composition and a coating having an enteric polymer, wherein the coating provides about 1% to about 10% weight gain of the capsule. The coating improves the robustness of enteric property and minimized the moisture absorption during dissolution of the softgel capsule."
