"Adaptive lenses with photovoltaic devices" was invented by Klaus Melakari (Espoo, Finland).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An eyewear apparatus includes an adaptive lens per eye; a frame employed to hold the adaptive lens; and at least one photovoltaic device per eye. A photosensitive surface of the at least one photovoltaic device is arranged at a periphery of the adaptive lens. The at least one photovoltaic device is to be employed to convert light incident upon the photosensitive surface into electricity, the electricity being usable to power the adaptive lens."
