ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,657,201, issued on June 16, was assigned to Oracle International Corp. (Redwood Shores, Calif.).
"Flexible schema tables" was invented by Atif Chaudhry (Newark, Calif.), Chandrasekharan Iyer (Foster City, Calif.) and Beda Christoph Hammerschmidt (Los Gatos, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "New columns to be dynamically created and stored in a database merely in response to receipt of DML ("Data Manipulation Language") SQL statements that reference the columns. The columns, when referenced by the received DML statements, are not defined as a column or attribute of a table by an explicit schema of the database."
