ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,565,368, issued on March 3, was assigned to Menasha Corp. (Neenah, Wis.).

"Plastic-free trapped tray packaging" was invented by Paul E. Robert (Lyndhurst, N.J.) and Greg Wicker (Fairport, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A trapped tray product packaging having a paperboard or a molded pulp tray trapped between a first panel and a second panel is provided. The first panel has an opening for placement of the tray. The tray includes a lip that is trapped between the first panel and the second panel. The first and second panels can be formed from paperboard."

The patent was filed on July 1, 2024, under Application No. 18/760,353.
