ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,593,886, issued on April 7, was assigned to Medical Innovation Group LLC (Vancouver, Wash.).

"Energy absorbing protective apparatus" was invented by Jarrett LeClaire (Vancouver, Wash.) and Jeffrey Charles Kelly (Downingtown, Pa.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An impact reducing headgear is disclosed which utilizes dynamically responsive materials which undergo physical changes during exposure to impact forces, such that physical changes or phase changes absorb energy.
