ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,625,134, issued on May 12, was assigned to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Mass.).

"Complex liquid crystal droplets" was invented by Timothy Manning Swager (Newton, Mass.), Cassandra Zentner (Brighton, Mass.) and Alberto Concellon Allueva (Boston).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Articles (e.g., a colloid) and methods for providing complex colloids comprising a hydrocarbon phase (e.g., a hydrocarbon phase comprising a liquid crystal) and a fluorocarbon phase are generally described. In some embodiments, the hydrocarbon phase and the fluorocarbon phase are distinct."
