ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14 -- United States Patent no. 12,678,018, issued on July 14, was assigned to MACNEIL IP LLC (Bolingbrook, Ill.).
"Dish drying mat" was invented by Stephen Kane (Cedar Lake, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sloping upper surface of a dish mat is supported by nonrectangular support ribs, whose depth decreases as a function of distance from the back of the dish mat body. Angled ribs in a left portion and in a right portion of the upper surface direct fluid to a central channel, which in turn directs the fluid to a spillway. The spillway forwardly and downwardly extends into a sink at which the dish mat has been positioned."
