ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,674,189, issued on July 7, was assigned to J&K Ingredients LLC (Paterson, N.J.).

"Use of microbial cell lines to maximize organic acid production" was invented by Derrick White (Lincoln, Neb.), James S. Brophy (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Krishnamoorthy Pitchai (St. Louis Park, Minn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein are methods, microbial cell lines, and media used in co-culture to augment propionic acid production using an optimized fermentation medium and methods for increasing propionic acid yield, e.g., by co-culturing Lacticbacillus Casei and high-acid tolerant A. Acidipropionici."
