ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,559,766, issued on Feb. 24, was assigned to INGATEYGEN LLC (Elizabeth City, N.C.).
"Peanut with reduced allergen levels" was invented by Hortense Dodo (Elizabeth City, N.C.) and Koffi N'da Konan (Elizabeth City, N.C.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Genetic constructs are provided to reduce or eliminate the allergenicity of peanuts. The constructs function by generating interfering RNA and/or by directing deletion using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. The constructs may be used in the production of genetically modified plants, plant parts and cells with reduced allergenicity."
