ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,599,624, issued on April 14, was assigned to Ethicon Inc. (Raritan, N.J.).

"Biodegradable lung sealants" was invented by Salim A. Ghodbane (Piscataway, N.J.), Sridevi Dhanaraj (Branchburg, N.J.) and Brian Aitken (Somerville, N.J.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention relates to a rapid setting liquid lung sealant that forms a highly adherent and elastic hydrogel.
