ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,577,184, issued on March 17, was assigned to Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tenn.).

"Production of 2,2,4,4-tetramethylcyclobutane-1,3-diol from isobutanol using a homogeneous catalyst" was invented by Mesfin Ejerssa Janka (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Robert Thomas Hembre (Johnson City, Tenn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed is a process for preparing 2,2,4,4-tetramethylcyclobutane-1,3-diol by reacting 2,2,4,4-tetramethylcyclobutane dione with isobutanol in the presence of a tandem transfer hydrogenation and Tischenko reaction catalyst."

The patent was filed on Nov. 30, 2021, under Application No. 18/250,587.
