ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,704,333, issued on Aug. 11, was assigned to Drexel University (Philadelphia).
"Amphiphilic minichannel surface structures to enhance heat transfer coefficient" was invented by Rebecca L. Winter (Lakewood, Ohio), Emre Olceroglu (San Francisco) and Matthew McCarthy (Media, Pa.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A structure for enhancing condensation and wetting dynamics includes a substrate and a channel formed in the substrate, forming fins. The fins have a hydrophilic surface. Each of the fins has a portion furthest from the substrate. A hydrophobic coating is formed over only the portion furthest from the substrate on each of the fins."
