ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,643,438, issued on June 2, was assigned to Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. (Foxboro, Mass.).
"Child restraint" was invented by William P. Mchugh (Norfolk, Mass.) and Jason H. Johnson (Brownstown, Ind.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A child restraint includes a juvenile seat adapted to support a child in a vehicle and a seat base adapted to rest on a vehicle seat. The seat base is fixed to the vehicle seat to support the juvenile seat for transportation in the vehicle. The juvenile seat can move from a rearward-facing orientation to a forward-facing orientation for children of varying sizes."
