ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,584,855, issued on March 24, was assigned to Deere & Co. (Moline, Ill.).

"Method and arrangement for determining a variable of grain crops" was invented by Peter Schade (Bad Durkheim, Germany), Carsten Struve (Ladenburg, Germany) and Renke Gralfs (Trippstadt, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for measuring at least one of a mass-specific or size-specific variable of grain crops, the method comprising the following steps: recording a spectrum of the grain crops with a sensor operating in the near-infrared range; and deriving the at least one of mass-specific or size-specific variable from the spectrum."
