ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,558,667, issued on Feb. 24, was assigned to CLEMSON UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FOUNDATION (Clemson, S.C.).

"Activated carbon for removal of taste and odor compounds from water" was invented by Srikanth Pilla (Clemson, S.C.), James Scott Sternberg (Clemson, S.C.), Tanju Karanfil (Clemson, S.C.) and Esat Ariturk (Clemson, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "In general, the present disclosure is directed to a soyhull-based activated carbon. The soyhull-based activated carbon comprises a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of from about 750 m2/g to about 2900 m2/g and a micropore volume of from about 0.50 cm3/g to about 1.2 cm3/g."
