ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,624,365, issued on May 12, was assigned to British American Tobacco Ltd. (London).
"Method for modulating the alkaloid content of a tobacco plant" was invented by Sara Ben Khaled (London) and Francisco Anastacio De Abreu E Lima (London).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed are methods of modulating the alkaloid content of a plant or a part thereof by modulating the activity or expression of at least one gene encoding a BTB/POZ NPH3 domain-containing protein. Methods of reducing the content of at least one tobacco specific nitrosamine (TSNA) precursor in tobacco are also provided."
