ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,642,704, issued on June 2, was assigned to Biolife Delaware LLC (South Jordan, Utah).

"Flexible hemostatic pad" was invented by Kurt Vadelund (Apollo Beach, Fla.), Talmadge Kelly Keene (Ruskin, Fla.), Kenneth Wiglund (Bradenton, Fla.) and Mark Travi (Venice, Fla.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A flexible hemostatic pad formed from a hemostatic powder, which may contain a hydrophilic polymer such as a cation ion exchange resin, compressed onto or into a velvet-like backing substrate is provided for the control of bleeding at a wound site."

The patent was filed on Feb. 4, 2021, under Application No. 17/168,117.
