ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,642,449, issued on June 2, was assigned to Arizona Board of Regents on Behalf of the University of Arizona (Tucson, Ariz.).

"Device and associated methods for simultaneous measurement of pulmonary ventilation and metabolic rate" was invented by Ralph Fregosi (Tucson, Ariz.) and Christina Hoyer-Kimura (Tucson, Ariz.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Various examples of a device for simultaneous measurement of pulmonary ventilation and metabolic rate are disclosed including a dual chamber configuration providing values for pulmonary ventilation and metabolic rate that compare favorably with the gold standard approaches."
