ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,556,013, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to Apple Inc. (Cupertino, Calif.).

"Detection of earbud insertion in a case" was invented by Calvin M. Ryan (Berkeley, Calif.), Antonio R. De Lima Fernandes (Panaji, India), James M. Hollabaugh (San Jose, Calif.), Chandrahas Aralaguppe Chandramohan (San Jose, Calif.) and Mitul Mahendrakumar Panchal (San Jose, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An apparatus includes a first and a second earbud and a case. The case is configured to provide an enclosure for the first and the second earbud and detect an insertion of either of the first earbud or the second earbud in the enclosure by using detection...
