ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,606,773, issued on April 21, was assigned to Akagera Medicines Inc. (Waltham, Mass.).

"Ionizable cationic lipids" was invented by Daryl C. Drummond (Lincoln, Mass.), Dmitri B. Kirpotin (San Francisco) and Mark E. Hayes (Mill Valley, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides compounds useful as ionizable cationic lipids. The ionizable cationic lipids are useful for preparing lipid nanoparticles for the delivery of therapeutic nucleic acids to cells.
