ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,630,778, issued on May 19, was assigned to Afton Chemical Corp. (Richmond, Va.).

"Detergent-free and low-ash lubricating composition" was invented by Mariah Parker (Richmond, Va.), Jason Bell (Powhatan, Va.) and Kenneth Garelick (Mechanicsville, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This disclosure describes detergent-free and low-ash lubricating composition achieving piston cleanliness with one or more succinimide dispersants, one or more ashless antiwear additives, and one or more antioxidants when selected ratios of sulfur, phosphorus, and nitrogen are maintained."
