US Patent Issued to Advanced Micro Devices on July 21 for "Variable rate BVH traversal" (Chinese Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,688,643, issued on July 21, was assigned to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Variable rate BVH traversal" was invented by Zhen Hu (Shanghai), Yue Zhuo (Shanghai), LingPeng Jin (Shanghai), Mingtao Gu (Shanghai) and ZhongXiang Luo (Shanghai).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A technique for performing ray tracing operations is provided. The technique includes, submitting a plurality of intersection test requests to an intersection test unit, wherein the plurality of intersection test requests are submitted prior to receiving results of any of the intersection test requests from the intersection test unit."
