"Integrated sulfur recovery and hydrogen production process" was invented by Mahin Rameshni (Monrovia, Calif.) and Stephen L. Santo (La Crescenta, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A process for producing hydrogen, sulfuric acid, and sulfur dioxide (SO2) utilizes the Sulfur-Iodine (S-I) thermochemical cycle. Acid gases, typically processed in sulfur recovery units, are combusted in an acid gas burner with air, enriched air, or oxygen, without fuel gas, to produce SO2. Iodine facilitates hydrogen production.A portion or all of the acid gases are directed to the burner in accordance with the present invention....
