According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A bridge girder system comprising a longitudinal central beam positioned at the median of a bridge and extending upward from a deck to a height greater than the height of vehicles traveling on the bridge. The central beam has a width less than its height and functions as a primary load-bearing member that transfers forces to supporting piers.
