KINGSTON, R.I., Sept. 30 -- The University of Rhode Island issued the following news release:
KINGSTON, R.I. - Sept. 30, 2026 - Irma Stevens, assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Rhode Island, has secured a five-year, $1.1 million CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation.
Stevens will use the funding to research variable literacy-the ability to comprehend and use mathematical symbols-and to develop ways to support students who struggle to use variables meaningfully.
