PEMBROKE, N.C., Aug. 15 -- The University of North Carolina at Pembroke issued the following news release:
Cornelia Oxendine had plenty of options for where to begin her college career.
The Pembroke native was accepted to Clemson University, Duke University, N.C. State
University, Coastal Carolina University and East Carolina University. When it came
time to choose, however, the place she already knew well felt like the right place
for her.
"I felt like I could stay home and still get the same education that I could have
gotten at ECU or Duke," said Oxendine, who plans to study biology before pursuing medical school with the goal of becoming a physician.
