WASHINGTON, July 21 -- The U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division issued the following news release:

A California man was arrested yesterday after a grand jury sitting in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging him with conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering.

According to theindictment,Christopher Slaterwas part of a multi-state conspiracy to defraud the United States of more than $52.7 million by filing hundreds of false tax returns claiming Paid Sick and Family Leave Credit(SFLC)andEmployee Retention Credit (ERC)credits.
