Five decades after becoming Virginia Tech's first Black sorority, the alumnae of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have spread more roots on the Blacksburg campus.
Members and alumnae of the Theta Phi Chapter gathered on Quillen Spirit on Saturday, April 11, 2026 to dedicate a commemorative bench and tree, cementing a legacy of service, leadership, and sisterhood that began on May 4, 1974.
Placed outside D2 dining hall, a historic gathering spot for Divine Nine new member presentations, the living monument honors the chapter's ongoing impact while marking a new chapter for campus recognition.
