U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) released the following statement announcing he would be voting "no" on Senator Markwayne Mullin's nomination to be the next head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
"The Department of Homeland Security is facing a severe crisis. ICE's and CBP's reckless and cruel practices have wreaked havoc on many communities and resulted in the detention and death of American citizens, FEMA has been disastrously mismanaged, and agents who should be working to protect us from terrorism have been reassigned to rounding up law-abiding immigrants.
