Senator and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA)alumnusMark Kelly (D-AZ)andSenatorRoger Wicker (R-MS) applauded the Senate passage oftheUSMMA Athletics Act of 2026,bipartisan legislationtosupport theAcademy'sathletic programs.Specifically, thelegislation would allow the USMMA toestablisha nonprofit organization to handle fundraising, licensing, ticketing, and other matters related to athletics. This wouldbringitinto parity with athletics programs at the other four U.S. service academies.
