Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after voting no on H.Con.Res, 84, Directing the President pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution to remove United States Armed Forces from Lebanon within 7 days.

"Today, I voted against this war powers resolution, not because I support U.S. involvement in hostilities in Lebanon, but because the resolution is overly broad and would require the removal of United States Armed Forces serving in roles beyond combat operations, including personnel protecting U.S. embassies and supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces.
