I am disappointed by the Supreme Court's decision to uphold states' discriminatory laws banning transgender girls and women from playing on school athletic teams that match their gender identity-a decision that will cause real harm to youth who simply want to be themselves while playing alongside their peers. Local school leaders and athletic officials are best positioned to make individual determinations about safety and fairness. We shouldn't have sweeping prohibitions based on fear.
