Today, Rep. Crockett released the following statement: "I am relieved that the owner of the Hutchins warehouse has confirmed they will not sell or lease this property to the Department of Homeland Security for use as an ICE detention facility.
The moment I became aware of these potential plans, my office moved quickly to engage local officials, demand answers, and assess the serious consequences this proposal would have imposed on the City of Hutchins. I also contacted Secretary Kristi Noem directly regarding my concerns about the lack of transparency and the absence of meaningful consultation with the community.
