NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ISSUES PROPOSED RULE: MODERNIZING REQUIREMENTS RELATING TO PHYSICAL PROTECTION OF CATEGORY 1 AND CATEGORY 2 QUANTITIES OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL

WASHINGTON, April 9 -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a proposed rule called: Modernizing Requirements Relating to Physical Protection of Category 1 and Category 2 Quantities of Radioactive Material.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on April 9 by Carrie Safford, Secretary of the Commission.

Summary: The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is conducting a review and wholesale revision of its regulations. As part of this initiative, the NRC is proposing to revise its regulations relating to physical protection and security of category 1 and category 2 quantities of radioactive material.
