CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 28 -- The University of Virginia issued the following news release:

The UVA Club of China, the University of Virginia's oldest international organization, recently celebrated a landmark anniversary. The first published news marking the club's existence appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch 120 years ago this week, about a month after the organization was founded.

The club, then named the China Chapter of the General Alumni Association of the University of Virginia, was founded Aug. 26, 1906, in what is now Guling.

The club's founding members were UVA alumni who graduated in the late 1800s. One of the club's 12 original members, W.W. Yen, was the first international student to earn a bachelor's degree from UV...
