NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION ISSUES PROPOSED RULE: IMPLEMENTATION OF FISH AND FISH PRODUCT IMPORT PROVISIONS OF THE MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION ACT

WASHINGTON, July 29 -- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a proposed rule called: Implementation of Fish and Fish Product Import Provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on July 29 by Samuel D. Rauch III, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Regulatory Programs, National Marine Fisheries Service.

Summary: NMFS is soliciting public input to inform potential revisions to the implementing regulations pursuant to the import provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA). NMFS is initiating a comprehensive review of the import regulations to increase efficiency of the program while ensuring that the objectives of the statute are met.
