WASHINGTON, June 3 -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a rule called: Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 206; Door Locks and Door Retention Components.

The rule was published in the Federal Register on June 3 by Jonathan Morrison, Administrator.

Summary: On May 30, 2025, NHTSA published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) proposing to remove obsolete requirements from Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 206, "Door locks and door retention components." The agency received no comment on the proposed changes to FMVSS No. 206 and therefore the agency is adopting the changes in this final rule.
