CARSON CITY, Nev., Aug. 5 -- Western Nevada College issued the following news release:

One of the year's most spectacular celestial events is about to light up the Northern Nevada sky, and Western Nevada College's Jack C. Davis Observatory invites the community to experience it under ideal viewing conditions.

The observatory will welcome visitors on the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 12, through the early morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 13, for the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, one of the most anticipated astronomical events of the year.
