ORONO, Maine, Sept. 25 -- University of Maine issued the following news release:

WMTW and WABI 5 reported on researchers at the University of Maine making golf tees from discarded lobster shells. "I got a grant from Sea Grant to do a small-scale project, which turned out to be the lobster tee. It's a really easy project to make, it's actually really good for golf courses. We got the opportunity to do like eight months of discovery, where we've talked to everybody from golfers all the way up to PGA executives. Everyone's really excited about it," said project team member and UMaine Ph.D. student Greg Simms during Maine Sea Grant's Marine Debris Symposium.
